Bacau

Bacau is the main city in the county of Bacau. It is situated in the historic region of Moldovia and at the foothills of the Carpathian mountains. Libra partner organisation in Bacau is the charity Fundatia de Sprijin Comunitar (FSC). FSC works in a number of areas across the city. Their programmes include the elderly, disadvantaged children and their families, hospitals and their “Impart” combined arts programme, which aims to stimulate and aid recovery for those with special needs. The parts that Libra’s team supports are:

The Mosaic Centre

The Mosaic Centre is FSC’s new office and has a day centre for children and the elderly to attend. Its name is derived from the desire to work with people from different walks of life; street children, Rroma children and underprivileged Romanian children attend the centre on a regular basis.

Club de Lipicii (The Sticky Club)

FSC runs a “Sticky Club”, with art, craft, music, dance and sports activities in a local middle school just around the corner from the Mosaic Centre. Children from underprivileged families are invited to attend.

The Rural Projects

FSC organise rural projects which operate in day centres in some of the villages to the east of the Siret river. Many Romanians living in these villages are extremely poor and in bad weather the roads and tracks can become impassable. FSC runs a travelling medical team and gives crucial support to these people.

The Volunteer Project

FSC already has a nationally recognised volunteer programme and believes volunteering is an important expression of citizenship. Libra works closely with these volunteers on both the urban and rural projects.
